Ashura is celebrated in Azerbaijan today.
According to Qadin.Net, the fatwa of the Council of Judges of the Caucasus Muslims Office (CMO) states that the 10th of Muharram - the day of Ashura - falls on August 30.
The day of Ashura has been remembered since 61 AH as a day of historical injustice and sorrow. Imam Hussein (as), the beloved grandson of the Prophet (pbuh), as well as the Companions, Ahl al-Bayt and followers of the Prophet (pbuh) were martyred in the desert of Karbala and their families were taken prisoner on the orders of the Umayyad caliph Yazid.
