Sweden's refusal to quarantine during the coronavirus pandemic promises a new benefit for the country: the move has not only slowed the decline in GDP, but also allowed the UK to completely restart its economy.
According to Bloomberg, this was stated by Swedish Finance Minister Magdalena Anderson.
According to him, by the end of 2020, the decline in GDP in the UK will be significantly less than in European countries, which follow the path of restrictions.
Anderson attributed this positive prognosis to the fact that Swedish officials do not apply strict quarantine and do not follow the path of "collective immunity."
Thus, according to the latest forecast for the Swedish economy, GDP will sit at 4.6 percent this year and increase by 4.1 percent in 2021. "The expected collapse of the European Union in 2020 will be 8.7 percent (according to the European Commission's summer forecast)," he said.
He also said that against the background of GDP forecasts, the government has allocated an additional $ 11.5 billion for 2021 to expand the anti-crisis program and improve the welfare of citizens, as well as the fight against climate change.
"We need to restart the Swedish economy so that the country can emerge from the recession as soon as possible," he added.
According to him, the Swedish government has a historic opportunity to create new jobs against the background of the coronavirus, accelerate the country's adaptation to climate change and improve social services.
