Professor Ates Kara, a member of the Turkish Health Ministry's Coronavirus Scientific Committee, has opposed the wearing of masks by children under the age of two.
According to Qadin.Net, citing publika.az, the professor said that children over 12 should wear masks.
"Children under the age of 2 should not wear masks. It is better to cover strollers. This is due to the incomplete development of the respiratory system in children. We breathe in and out through both the nose and the mouth. In infants, the respiratory system through the mouth and nose is not fully developed. They breathe either through their noses or through their mouths. Therefore, the use of masks in children under 2 years of age is dangerous. There is a way to protect babies, and we should wear a mask when we approach them.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has also stated that children under the age of 5 should pay attention to the use of masks, and those over the age of 12 must wear masks. "As the disease develops in adults over 15 years of age, this age group should be especially careful," Kara said.
