Who are the most deadly patients with coronavirus? - RESEARCH

Researchers at Tulane University in the United States have found that a COVID-19 patient suffering from high blood pressure, obesity and diabetes has died from complications caused by the infection.
According to Qadin.Net referring to publika.az, life-threatening factors "EurekAlert!" published on the website.
The researchers studied 287 COVID-19 patients who were hospitalized between March 30 and April 5. The average age of patients was over 60. The most common conditions were hypertension (80 percent), obesity (65 percent), diabetes (54 percent), and low-density lipoprotein (39 percent). All patients were divided into two groups with a diagnosis of metabolic syndrome (66% of all cases) and without it.
It was found that 56% of patients with metabolic syndrome were placed in the intensive care unit, 48% require mechanical ventilation, 37% suffer from acute respiratory distress syndrome, and only 26% died. In the second group, these figures were 24, 18, 11 and 10 percent, respectively.

Metabolic syndrome is a combination of at least three of the five conditions: hypertension, high blood pressure, obesity, high triglycerides, and "good" cholesterol associated with high-density lipoprotein.
