Unexpected offer from professor: "Weddings should be allowed"

The Public Union of Azerbaijani Doctors has called for the lifting of some bans in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
This was reported by Professor Adil Geybulla, Gadin.Net publika.az reports. He said that isolation measures taken since the announcement of a strict quarantine regime in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic in the country, the timely opening and commissioning of modular hospitals have prevented the spread of the virus in our country. However, members of the union believe that people are tired of the 5-month quarantine and need a serious easing. We present the appeal of the Union as it is:

Given the losses of our economy, the impact of the "stay at home" quarantine on the psycho-emotional state of people, and the resulting significant weakening of the immune system, if the situation continues in this way, our losses may be greater in the second wave. For this purpose, we consider it necessary to implement the following measures:

1. The cost of tests should be significantly reduced, they should be accessible and every citizen should be able to check himself. It is advisable to increase the number of centers performing this test. This not only allows for the timely detection of patients, but also helps to determine the exact number of patients in the population, the percentage of collective immunity, and to support anti-epidemic measures.

2. In order to reduce congestion in Baku, to protect the right of people to rest, it is expedient to measure the temperature and allow travel to the districts (regions). While there are recreation centers in neighboring Georgia and Turkey, we have no logic to continue the ban in this area.

3. Steps must be taken to eliminate congestion in public transport. For example, it may be necessary to change the start and end times of working hours for this purpose. At the same time, the world practice should be studied in connection with the restoration of the metro.

4. Such a ban on weddings will cause significant changes in the demographics of the population in a few years. Standards for the organization of weddings in the open air should be clarified as long as the weather allows. At the next stage, norms for indoor weddings should be established with the participation of close relatives (50-100 people) and strict adherence to quarantine rules. Weddings, birthdays and other public events should be held in a defined format and with specific instructions. For this purpose, standards should be set for indoor weddings. For example, if the capacity of an enclosed space is 300 people, it is reduced by 3 times, the distance between tables should be at least 2 meters, and the distance between people sitting opposite should be at least 2 meters. Those talking in the hallway should wear masks and keep a physical distance. Children under the age of 12 should not be allowed to attend the wedding.

5. The implementation of all these measures must be kept under the strict control of the relevant executive authorities.

It should be noted that the Public Union of Azerbaijani Doctors (ADB) plans to cause serious action in the context of the common platform of Azerbaijani doctors, the health, welfare and interests of the Azerbaijani people by discussing the ongoing processes in our society. Note that Prof. Dr. Adil Qeybulla, Assoc. Dr. Justice Rustam, Assoc. Dr. Akif Efendiyev, Dr. Vasif Ismail, Dr. Aydin Aliyev, Dr. Galib Asadov, Dr. Parviz Akhundov is a key member of the union.
