Today, the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Colonel-General Zakir Hasanov met with the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, General of the Army Sergey Shoigu, who is on a working visit to our country.
Welcoming the guests, the Azerbaijani Defense Minister stressed that the friendly relations between the two countries determine the dynamic development of relations between the two countries in all areas.
Touching upon the military-political situation in the region, Hasanov said that Armenia's policy of aggression is a major threat to peace, stability and security not only in Azerbaijan but in the whole region. Touching upon the recent provocations committed by the Armenian side in the direction of Tovuz region, Hasanov said that it was aimed at undermining relations between Azerbaijan and the CIS countries.
Noting the role of the Russian Federation in resolving the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the Azerbaijani Defense Minister stressed that Russia, like all international organizations, recognizes the territorial integrity of our country and respects its independence and sovereignty.
Expressing gratitude to the Azerbaijani side for the warm reception, the Russian Defense Minister expressed his deep condolences to the families of the Azerbaijani servicemen killed in the recent clashes on the border with Armenia.
Commenting on recent media reports about the transportation of weapons from Russia to Armenia by air, General Shoigu said that these military shipments are not for the supply of weapons and military equipment, as well as other military property to Armenia, but for large-scale construction of Russia's 102nd military base in the country. was carried out for the purpose of delivery of construction materials intended for carrying out works and rotation of conscripts serving in that base. He stressed that Russia has not taken any steps against Azerbaijan so far and will not do so in the future.
The sides also discussed issues of international and regional security, the current state of cooperation in the military field and prospects for the development of relations, and exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest in the field of military-technical cooperation.
