STATEMENT from Ramiz Mehdiyev on his grandson's wedding

"As it is known, the wedding party of my granddaughter Fidan Aliyeva, which took place on August 18, 2020 in a country house in Novkhani with the participation of a limited number of guests, became a topic of discussion after a video posted on social networks by one of the guests."
These words were included in the statement made by the President of ANAS Ramiz Mehdiyev on the website of the organization, Gadin.Net reports.
The statement said:
"I would like to note that in those days, other high-ranking Azerbaijani officials and other public figures also organized weddings and birthdays for their daughters, sisters and other close relatives. But it is very strange that the media's attention is focused on my family. Of course, the position of the relevant authorities on what happened is justified. Because everyone is equal before the law. I also consider the court's decision on my son-in-law fair. Administrative sanctions against other guests attending the meeting are also in accordance with the law.

However, it is also true that during the pandemic, no one who held weddings and engagements, as well as committed administrative offenses, was handcuffed and demonstrated in front of a judge. The reason for this double standard is really mysterious. I want to believe that the law enforcement agencies, media, parliamentarians and public figures of our country will treat similar events with the same sensitivity and principle, handcuff all the culprits and give them valuable advice on the rule of law. In this case, the questions and doubts of ordinary citizens about the rule of law in the country will be completely eliminated.

Historical experience has shown that the progress, strength and future of any state depend on the equality of its citizens before the law. If in any society a group of people have become privileged due to their duties and financial means and can circumvent the law, it is impossible to speak of any justice, truthfulness or humanity. The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said in one of his hadiths: “O people! The nations before you perished. Because when the nobles and rich people of those nations stole, no one punished them. However, when a poor person did this, he was immediately punished. I swear to God that even if my daughter Fatima had stolen, I would have cut off her hand. "

As for me, I am not offended by journalists and MPs who are extremely critical and diligent. As always, they act according to the situation, they speak according to the situation. I am ready to listen with the same patience to those who praised me yesterday and criticized me today. However, these people should not forget that the struggle of the President for the rule of law also applies to them, and everyone will face the harsh side of the law.

I would also advise these people to take a good look in front of the mirror when throwing stones at someone. Ask them if they are pure enough to criticize others. Do they have the moral right to teach others a moral lesson? If we are really fighting for transparency, then it would be fairer for honest people to criticize the unclean. The fact that dishonest people teach morality to the people can only make people feel disgusted. Let them not forget this! ”
