The mutated strain of the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, which is widespread in parts of Europe, the United States and Asia, is less lethal, although more contagious.
The statement came from Paul Tambya, president of the International Society for Infectious Diseases (ISID), according to Reuters.
According to him, as a rule, most viruses become less dangerous as they mutate.
"The virus is not interested in killing people, but in infecting as many people as possible, because it depends on the owner as a source of food and shelter," Tambiya said.
