Recently, not only in the capital Baku, but also in other cities and regional centers of the country, there have been frequent reports of cyclists being detained and fined by police.
What is the need for this?
The head of the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) Ehsan Zahidov said that administrative measures are taken against these people not because they ride bicycles, but because they violate the rules:
"We also support and welcome the use of bicycles by our citizens. Because cycling has both a positive effect on health and a very environmentally friendly means of movement.
However, the law does not allow riding a bicycle where and how it came from. Riding a bicycle in a busy and congested area is both a hindrance and a danger to people resting there. There have been several traffic accidents caused by cyclists.
Therefore, our citizens who use bicycles must follow the law and order and ride the bike in the places reserved for them, in safer places that do not impede the movement of people and vehicles.
In that case, they will be able to ride their bicycles comfortably and take care of their health without being fined or risking their lives. I emphasize once again that the administrative measures taken against them are not because they ride bicycles, but because they do not follow the rules and ride their bikes in unspecified places.
