Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said at a meeting at the Defense Ministry's Strategic Management Center that Russian President Vladimir Putin had agreed to provide assistance if needed.

Mr Lukashenko said:
"When it comes to the military situation, we have an agreement with Russia within the framework of the Collective Security Treaty Organization. These points are in line with that agreement. Therefore, today I had a long and detailed conversation with the President of Russia about the situation. I must say that he surprised me - he is completely aware of what happened. "
