Google says it intends to create the widest network for earthquake detection using Android smartphones. The information is available on the company's official website.
"Regardless of where you live, your Android can be part of an earthquake warning system," the report said, citing TASS. This means that your phone can be a mini seismometer and can be connected to other Android phones to create the world's largest earthquake warning system.
According to Google, each smartphone is equipped with a small accelerometer. It will record signals confirming a nearby earthquake. In order to determine whether the earthquake is actually in a certain place, the signals will be sent to a special server that collects and processes data from various smartphones.
In the first stage, information about the earthquake in the vicinity can be found by querying the Google search engine. However, the company plans to send an earthquake notification to residents of the United States and other countries in the future.
