The WHO issued a statement following Russian President Vladimir Putin's announcement of the first registered coronavirus vaccine.
WHO spokesman Tariq Yasarevic said that they were discussing whether the Russian-made coronavirus vaccine meets their standards, Qadin.Net reports citing axşam.az.
"We are in close contact with the Russian health authorities and discussions are ongoing on the WHO's pre-qualification for the vaccine. However, the pre-qualification of any vaccine involves careful consideration and evaluation of all required safety and efficacy data," he said. .
Russia's first coronavirus vaccine was developed jointly by the Gamaleya Research Institute and the Russian Defense Ministry. Clinical trials of the vaccine began on June 18, with 38 volunteers participating.
