South Korean scientists have developed a new coronavirus vaccine based on a weakened form of SARS-CoV-2 infection. The vaccine has already been successfully tested on mice.
Scientists have published the preliminary results of the study in the scientific library "BioRxiv".
"We are developing a weakened version of the coronavirus infection by gradually adapting it to living in cells at low temperatures. In this way, we reduce the optimal survival temperature of the pathogen from 37 degrees to 22 degrees. The vaccine, which was injected into the body of mice through their noses, protected them from the attack of the common coronavirus.
In recent months, scientists from different countries have been testing various vaccines against the new type of coronavirus. Some of them are tested on animals and some on humans. If the test methodology of vaccines does not change, the analysis of preliminary results can take place only next year.
Many drugs are based on untested technologies based on the incorporation of DNA fragments into human cells and their production of many viral proteins. Scientists are also working on classic vaccines based on weakened virus particles and ready-made fragments of the virus shell. In both cases, it will be difficult to organize mass production of these drugs.
