Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has warned of an environmental crisis that could outweigh the damage caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
According to Gadin.Net, he predicts that in the next few decades, the planet will face a global crisis caused by climate change.
"No matter how severe the pandemic, climate change may be worse," the billionaire wrote on his blog.
Gates believes that in order to avoid a catastrophe, it is necessary to significantly reduce the amount of greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere.
The founder of Microsoft compared the consequences of the environmental crisis with the coronavirus pandemic. The average death toll from the infection was 14 per 100,000 population. The entrepreneur estimates that in the next 40 years, the number of deaths from rising temperatures on Earth will be the same, and by 2100 this figure will increase fivefold.
