In Russia, masters from the National Research Institute of Nuclear Engineering Physics (IFIB) have developed a new method for treating coronavirus.
According to the university's press service, they have developed a light-emitting diode device for the safe treatment of serious diseases, including COVID-19.
The method is based on irradiating the surface of the body with light in the red range.
Professor Viktor Loshenov said that this is one of the newest methods of treatment using photoensitization:
"They inject patients into the area where they are infected and kill the virus under the influence of radiation. At the same time, photosensitizers deactivate the immune cells responsible for cytokine storms and thus do not cause a fatal reaction.
According to him, there have been no similar devices in the world that can reliably irradiate patients.
More than 40 patients infected with COVID-19 have already been treated using this method. In all of them, the oxygen saturation of the blood increased, the pain in the lungs disappeared and the sense of smell returned.
In general, participants recovered faster than other infected people.
