In Baku, greenery will be irrigated with groundwater formed in subway tunnels

The Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources (MENR) and Baku Metro CJSC have launched a project aimed at efficient use of groundwater formed in the metro area.

According to the Ministry, the first important step was taken in the area of Nizami metro station within the project, which envisages the use of groundwater for technical purposes, especially for irrigation of greenery.

Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Mukhtar Babayev, Baku Mayor Eldar Azizov and Chairman of Baku Metro Zaur Huseynov got acquainted with the implementation of the project on efficient use of groundwater in metro tunnels.

Lets` noted that, within the framework of the project, relevant works were carried out in “Nizami-Academy of Sciences” apartment, where the groundwater is thicker and the water flow rate meets the relevant requirements.

After the specialized laboratory of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources studied the composition of the water and gave a positive opinion, a line was drawn to ensure the transportation of water from engineering facilities. Groundwater is already used to irrigate greenery in the capital.

Research is nearing completion in several other areas where groundwater flow is sufficient in the metro, and similar measures will be taken in those areas.

It should be noted that on April 14, in a video conference on the socio-economic results of the first quarter of 2020, President Ilham Aliyev announced the decision to establish a commission, emphasizing the importance of water resources in the country.

The commission has launched projects in several areas.
