"The risk of infection is higher on the beaches" - Turkish professor

The dramatic increase in the number of new coronavirus (COVID-19) infections in Turkey is a wake-up call. The results show that this growth will continue. One of the main sources of infection is the beaches.
The statement came from Turkish professor, doctor of medical sciences, well-known public figure Ibrahim Oztek, Gadin.Net reports.

Noting that it is impossible to maintain social distance and wear a mask on the beaches, the professor said:

"I think the World Health Organization should develop a special recommendation for beaches as soon as possible. It is impossible to enter the water with a mask. People never do that. On the other hand, the beach is always windy. The melancholy breeze spreads the virus rapidly through the airways. Drops of water released from the body of sick people are a source of infection. There are several serious factors that increase the risk of infection in this area. All this suggests that the risk of infection on the beaches is higher than in other places of mass gathering.

Ibrahim Öztek said that the number of infected people in Turkey on August 4 was 88 more than a day earlier, adding that non-compliance with restrictions on mass gatherings and communication during Eid al-Adha had a negative impact on Turkey's success in the fight against coronavirus. The situation on the beaches and at weddings, and the non-compliance with the restrictions on holidays, may become more pronounced in the coming weeks.
