English was born in 1929 in Lexington, Kentucky. His father was an electrical engineer in a coal mine, and his mother was a housewife. The inventor attended boarding school in Arizona and later studied electrical engineering at the University of Kentucky.
In 1964, Englishman Douglas Engelbart was one of the first workers to create a computer mouse in his laboratory.
