Women are banned from cycling in Mashhad

The president of the Cycling Federation of Iran's Khorasan-e-Razavi province said that the Headquarters for the Application of Religious Rules has received a permit to ban women from cycling in Mashhad.
Women are also banned from cycling in public, Gadin.Net reports quoting oxu.az.

Mehdi Ruzbehane blamed female cyclists.

Earlier, the Sabzvar City Council of Public Culture and the Religious Affairs Enforcement Headquarters banned women from riding bicycles. The Sabzvar Public Cultural Council, led by the imam of the Sabzvar city Friday prayer, demanded that signs prohibit women from riding bicycles in the city.

All but one male member of the Sabzvar Cycling Federation resigned on July 27 in protest of the decision. On July 31, the head of the Sabzvar Sports and Youth Department accepted their resignations.

Now the Religious Affairs Implementation Headquarters has banned women from cycling in Mashhad.
