If there are no symptoms, how can we tell if we are infected with the coronavirus?

The main feature of the coronavirus is that while some groups have severe disease, others have no symptoms. According to experts, some people may not be aware of COVID-19 infections.
Professor Aynur Eren Topkaya, a Turkish medical microbiologist, says it is only possible to find out if people are infected with the coronavirus through antibody tests.

"The figures released by the Ministry of Health do not include those with asymptomatic disease. PCR (polymerase chain reaction) tests are performed only in patients with multiple symptoms of the disease. Asymptomatic sufferers are mostly young people, women, and people without major chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and hypertension.

Our body produces antibodies in response to infection. These antibodies are proteins called immunoglobulins. IgG, IgA, IgM analysis of immunoglobulins formed in response to infection by antibody tests. Antibodies are in the blood of infected people. "Antibody tests can detect infections with little or no symptoms," he said.
