The US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has announced an increase in some migration fees.
According to the official website of the service, the new duties, which will increase by an average of 20 percent, will come into force on October 2, 2020.
It is stated that the payments are intended to cover the full cost of processing applications made by immigrants.
At the same time, USCIS will increase the processing time for immigration applications from 15 calendar days to 15 working days.
The decision to increase tariffs is explained by the reduction of funding for the service in the context of the coronavirus pandemic and a sharp decline in the number of applications for residence in the United States by foreigners.
USCIS was forced to close its offices and suspend service due to the pandemic. The department asked Congress for $ 1.2 billion in emergency financial assistance. Unlike most federal agencies, USCIS's main source of income is service fees.
