Scientists from the US state of Philadelphia have studied the effects of the coronavirus on pregnant women.
According to Science Immunology, people infected with COVID-19 were observed in maternity hospitals between April and June. The researchers found that pregnant women had a different immune response to the virus.
1,293 women were tested for antibodies after delivery. Antibodies to the coronavirus were detected in 6.2% of them.
However, scientists still do not understand how immunity is related to race and ethnic groups. It has been found that some women develop more immunity, while others develop less. For example, women of Spanish descent are better protected than others - 10.4% of them develop antibodies, and 9.7% of black pregnant women have immunity.
According to the study, only two percent of white women and 0.9 percent of Asians develop immunity to the coronavirus.
