The lyceum should cover the general secondary and upper secondary levels of general education.
According to Gadin.Net, this is reflected in the "Criteria for the types of general education institutions" approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
Other criteria for high school are:
-organization of education on the basis of state standards and programs;
- organization of education on relevant trends (humanitarian, technical, nature and others);
- Admission of talented students to the lyceum through competition;
- Out-of-competition admission of students who have achieved success in subject Olympiads and international competitions;
-creation of centers for the preparation of talented students for local and international subject Olympiads and competitions;
- implementation of cooperation projects with higher education institutions and scientific organizations;
- determination of the number of staff by the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated May 26, 1996 No. 59 “On exemplary staffs of state secondary schools, lyceums and gymnasiums of the Republic of Azerbaijan”.
