Pilgrims began gathering in Mecca on Wednesday to perform the holiest religious rites of Islam.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, very few people attended the Hajj this year. Usually, more than two million people would gather at this holy place of Islam during the Hajj pilgrimage. However, the ban on foreign pilgrims has limited the number of pilgrims.
Only Saudi nationals and 1,000 foreigners from the country selected a few weeks ago were allowed to visit.
Pilgrims between the ages of 20 and 50 who take the Hajj are tested for COVID-19 before going to Mecca, and are required to remain in quarantine in hotel rooms before starting the pilgrimage.
They will also be required to remain in quarantine for a week after the five-day Hajj.
