The Indian Serum Institute (SII) is launching final tests for an experimental coronavirus vaccine called Covishield, developed by the University of Oxford and the Austrian company AstraZeneca.
According to the Times of India, 5,000 volunteers will be vaccinated.
Simultaneously with the tests, we start production of Covishield. SII plans to produce 3-4 million doses of this vaccine by the end of the year. To be the world's largest producer of safe and effective vaccines, India has the potential to produce one billion doses or more a year, ”said Adar Punavalla, director of the institute.
Earlier, the vaccine was planned to be produced in India in August, after testing.
Last week, the University of Oxford announced that the tests of Covishield, one of the most promising coronavirus vaccines in the world, gave satisfactory results.
