A new class of drugs has been developed to prevent coronavirus infection.
The statement came from Alexander Myasnikov, a well-known Russian specialist and chief physician of a Moscow hospital, on his Telegram channel.
According to him, the key to protecting the body from the new coronavirus is in monoclonal antibodies, and it is possible to use this tool until the vaccine is ready:
"This will serve to prevent COVID-19 in groups with risk factors until a reliable and safe vaccine is obtained."
The doctor said that this work is very promising:
"Thanks to these antibodies, experts have a very powerful and very special weapon against a particular virus."
Myasnikov noted that these drugs are easy to distinguish by name: they all end in "-mab" - "Tozilisumab", "Ramizisumab", "Amisizumab" and others.
According to the chief doctor, such drugs are effective, although very expensive.
However, he stressed that these drugs should be used only by people at risk to prevent a severe course of the disease.
