Chief infectious disease specialist: "The situation in the regions is tense ..." - Interview

Chief infectious disease specialist Jalal Isayev answered Telegraf.com's questions about the latest epidemiological situation in the country.

We present the interview.

- Doctor, it is planned to extend the quarantine regime for another 2 weeks. How do you feel about that?

- Extending the quarantine regime is the right decision. It is true that in recent days there has been a stabilization in infections, the number of infections is declining, and recovery is outpacing infection. There is a positive dynamic, and it is important to continue the quarantine regime to maintain it.

The impact of future results may allow the quarantine regime to be relaxed to some extent. From this point of view, it is expedient to continue the quarantine regime.

- Can we say goodbye to the coronovirus in August?

- No one can say that. Because it is very difficult to predict a coronavirus infection. I read a report from European sources that the effects of the coronavirus have weakened somewhat recently. It is also an observation, which has not yet been confirmed. Therefore, it is impossible to be sure of such things.

- The quarantine regime is being extended, people could not rest this year. Could this cause aggression and stress in the winter?

- Let's think correctly, why cause aggression? We have to do it. If our enemy abroad is an Armenian, the internal enemy of the whole world is a coronavirus infection. We are currently fighting the virus, and the main conditions for the fight are to wait for social distance, wear masks, follow the rules of hygiene, stay away from public places.

If we follow them, the number of infections will decrease, the number of complications and the number of deaths will decrease. The measures taken in this regard are very important. We all need to approach it correctly. There is nothing to cause aggression here, nor should we think that they are taking away our rights. The rules applied to protect against the disease should not be taken as the cause of aggression.

- We have been staying at home for 5 months now, we are deprived of vitamin D received by sunlight. Can people buy vitamin D tablets in pharmacies?

- You can take vitamin D, but you need to check if you need this vitamin? In any case, it is advisable to give people vitamin D prophylactically.

- When do you think it will be possible to open access to the regions?

- Currently, the situation in the regions is tense. This decision can be made after assessing the situation. We used to think that maybe we should let people go, let Baku be empty. But you see that the incidence of diseases is increasing in the regions, and it was risky to take this step against the background of that growth. In any case, this mechanism should be developed and a decision should be made after the diagnosis of the disease.

- Recently, a march was organized to support our army and commemorate our martyrs. How do you feel about that? Will mass gathering affect the incidence of infections?

- People marched to support our army. Unfortunately, none of the people there wore masks. Among them may be carrying hundreds of viruses. They will infect those around them.

Some of the infected will have clinical symptoms, while others will have asymptomatic forms. This will infect other people around you. This was not a good thing from this point of view.

It is true that we all say that we have gathered to support the political line of our army and state. On the other hand, we are creating conditions for our second enemy to increase the incidence of disease.
