The village of Madagiz (Sugovushan) liberated from the occupation of the Armenian armed forces is one of the villages of the Tartar region of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
According to the report, Madagiz previously belonged to the administrative territory of Agdara region.
In 1992, Aghdara region was abolished and its territory was divided between the neighboring Aghdam region, Tartar region and Kalbajar region. Madagiz village is also one of the villages connected to Tartar region.
Madagiz was first liberated by the Azerbaijani Army in 1991-1992. However, it was re-occupied by Armenia in April 1994.
Madagiz reservoir and Madagiz-1 hydroelectric power station are located in the village. After the occupation of Madagascar, the Armenians established military units here. Military unit 49971 was considered one of the best military units of the Armenian army in Karabakh. In addition, military unit 33651, designated by the Armenian army as the "6th Defense District", was located in Madagiz.
Madagiz was released from occupation by the Azerbaijani Armed Forces on October 3, 2020. This good news was announced to the population by the President of Azerbaijan, Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev. Then the Supreme Commander-in-Chief congratulated the Commander of the 1st Army Corps Hikmet Hasanov on the liberation of Madagiz.
